ACCIDENTALS





If you play "FA" and then you play "FA#" on your recorder, you will notice that the second one is higher than the first one. In music this is called "ACCIDENTAL NOTES".

Accidental:  sign placed immediately to the left of (or above) a note to show that the note must be changed in pitch

  • sharp sign (♯) raises a note by a semitone; 
  • flat sign (♭) lowers a note by a semitone; 
  • natural sign (♮) restores the note to the original pitch.
